James Savage is an associate professor in George Mason University’s English program and Honor’s College. He has experience with course development that incorporates multilingual principles. For example, his participation with GMU colleagues in the 2019 working group led to the creation of workshops on language noticing, “an approach that has students investigate how other writers use language in written texts so that they can mindfully adapt their own language in similar writing situations,” and also led to the drafting of a language philosophy statement.
Savage contributed to “The Metacognitive Student: How to Teach Academic, Social, and Emotional Intelligence in Every Content Area”, which comprehensively addresses the importance of metacognition. It provides practical strategies for incorporating metacognitive instruction across subjects, enhancing students’ academic, social, and emotional intelligence. Through a combination of theory and practical application, the book promotes deeper learning and critical thinking skills, which build transfer and lifelong success.
